Lily Gaëlle @ 9 months

Even though I can't post pictures right now, I want to let everyone know how quickly our Lily is growing up and how many new and wonderful things she is learning. She is currently 9 months and 5 days old, and here is the rundown of what's going on in Lily's world.
Our most recent and most exciting development: Lily is finally CRAWLING! I've been waiting for this moment for two months, and now that it has happened, I am terrified!! She has been sooo close to crawling for so long, and yesterday she finally figured it out while trying to reach Duke's dog toy (of course). She can't go far or fast yet, but I'm sure she will be all over the place in no time and we are very proud of her.
She loooves clapping her hands, whether she is happy, sad, hungry, in the car, whatever. Her favorite song right now is 'If You're Happy and You Know It' and she claps right along.
She is also getting really good at waving hello and bye-bye, and she shows off her skills to people at the grocery store, the bank, the DMV, and anywhere else that they are willing to wave back. She pumps her whole arm up and down with her palm facing up, or sometimes she opens and closes her hand. She makes friends everywhere we go!
Lily has also become quite proficient at doing 'Soooo big!', thanks to lots of practice with Nana Great in Valpo.
And what is she eating? Hmm, well, what isn't she eating? There might not be the same wide variety of food available in Winder as we had in Chicago, but we are all loving the fresh seasonal produce from local stands and gardens. Lily is chowing down on beautiful peaches, melons, plums and berries, as well as squash, peas, and potatoes. Her special treats include wedges of fresh cantaloupe, crunchy dill pickles and toast dipped in hummus. And purees are becoming a thing of the past; she wants to feed herself so we are doing mostly finger foods. No meat yet, but she is satisfied with tofu and veggie burgers for now. Her dinner tonight was steamed spinach with tomatoes, and she wolfed it down happily. We are still nursing about 4 times a day and she doesn't show any signs of losing interest at this point. Her weight has been holding steady at around 23 pounds, and I foresee that she will soon lose much of her adorable chub with the way she is moving around.
In the absence of our Stroller Strides friends, Lily's best buddy has been her Duke. They play together and he is wonderful with her, letting her climb all over him and giving her waaay too many kisses. I have to watch very carefully while she is eating her meals, because she always tries to feed him from her high chair. I am happy that they are keeping each other company, although I look forward to finding Lily some new baby friends. We are going to try a new playgroup on Thursday.
She has been doing a lot of 'singing' lately, mostly ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba or abble-babble with the back of her hand on her mouth. She has definitely found her voice and she's not shy about using it! She will also call out for someone if they walk out of the room, a sharp little BA?! that clearly says 'Hey, where did you go? Come back!'
She is absolutely fearless in the water, we play in her little plastic baby pool and she leans over and sticks her face right in the water, mouth and eyes open, and pops up smiling. We swam in a big pool in Vidalia last weekend and she had the time of her life. I think she would have swam across the pool if I had let go of her. :)
And of course, Lily loves her Mommy and Daddy and we love her!! I can't believe how quickly the past 9 months have flown by and I am so very proud of our beautiful, happy, vivacious little girl. We are SO blessed to have her.

Mangerson technological difficulties...BOO

I regret to inform you all that our Mac hard drive has recently kicked the bucket, and so I am currently unable to access our pictures. All of our machines are bailing on us; I think the computer was upset about the demise of our Explorer and decided to join it. And I hadn't even caught up on my postings from the move yet!! Anyhoo, I have lots of cute pictures on deck and hopefully you will be able to see them all soon. :[

3320 North Leavitt #1, October 2006-June 2010

Well, after a long time of knowing it was going to happen and waiting for it to happen, the BIG move finally happened, and it was a lot bigger than we expected. It took a whole village to get all of our stuff packed and on the truck...after 4 long and lovely years at 3320 N Leavitt, we had accumulated a LOT of stuff, and our apartment seemed unwilling to relinquish it. Every time we thought we were making headway, we turned a corner and found MORE. We couldn't have done it without the help of Gram (the cleaning machine), Grandpa Mark and Grandma Bev, Uncle James and Auntie Ali, AND the family next door. From creative last-minute packing to hamburger grilling to Lily duty, everyone was awesome! After what seemed like the longest long weekend of our lives (what a way to spend Memorial Day!), the movers finally drove away with our stuff and it was time to say goodbye. There were tears all around--although we always knew that we wouldn't stay in Chicago forever, it didn't make leaving any easier. There are so many things (and so many wonderful people) that we are going to miss. No more Duke walks through Roscoe Village with Starbucks and the BOB, no more CTA commutes or cab rides, no more weekend trips to Valpo or Culver, no more sushi delivery, no more Cubs games, no more Packer games at Will's, no more glimpses of the skyline while going about our day. But there are also things we won't miss, and we know we have a lot to look forward to. Our ceiling is no longer someone else's floor, our bathroom doors actually close, we are more than 3 feet from the house next to us, our walls are not covered in 15 layers of paint, there are no sirens or car alarms going off at all hours, and we don't have to share coin laundry with a guy who never wears a shirt. But I think of our Chicago house like I think of an old friend--you don't love everything about it, but you wouldn't change anything. It wasn't perfect, but it was perfect for us. Even though it wasn't even technically ours, it was our first real HOME, the place where we went from being a couple to being a family, and we will always remember it with love. We can only hope that it will remember us as well.

Goodbye Chicago Friends!!

During our last week in the Windy City, we made sure that Lily got to see as many of her favorite baby friends as possible. On Thursday, she had a play-date with Annabelle at Hobbitland (yes, Tolkien fans, it is actually a place), and on Friday we went to our final Stroller Strides class (sniff sniff) at Diversey Harbor.

So much fun at Hobbitland

Hey Caden, that's MY water bottle!

MOMMY!!!

Smiling at Gram (who came to visit Stroller Strides) with Avery,

And bidding a fond farewell to our time in Chicago. We will miss you ALL!!!

Back back to Culver days...better late than never!

A few days before the big move, Lily had her first trip to Culver during Jake's 10-year reunion weekend (not counting all of the visits she made while in utero last summer), and we enjoyed taking her back to the place where it all started. She visited the chapel, marched in parade with the alumni, and then went back to Valpo to play with Mimi while Mommy and Daddy partied down for the first time in a long time. :)
