A Surprise Week in Rhinelander
Jake had Presidents' Day off from work, so we headed up to the Northwoods to spend a long holiday weekend with the grandparents. We had such a great time that Lily and I were not quite ready to go home on Monday morning, so we spontaneously decided to stay and hang out for an extra week. Lily had lots of adventures during our stay: Grandpa Mark let her drink some ice water from a cup and she loooooved it, now I can't fix a glass of water without her reaching for it! We think she also started teething, since she had a couple of fussy days where she was gnawing on everything in sight. She went to visit Great-Aunt Ruthie and Great-Uncle Irv and showed them her new rolling over skills, she got some cool new toys at KC Menagerie, she took a long walk outside with Bumpa Brian in her green 'Kermit the Frog' suit, and she cuddled and played with her Mimi. It was a wonderful time, but we were glad to get back home to Chicago because Lily missed her Daddy (and I missed him too)!
Snowy Day in Chicago
We got a foot of snow in the Windy City during the week before Valentines Day, and Lily and I were mourning our lack of a vehicle other than the BOB stroller (which is as awesome as anything could be at maneuvering snowy sidewalks) and Mom's two feet. We still managed to venture outside, and Lily stayed warm and cozy while I huffed and puffed my way through Roscoe Village.

How big is Lily? Soooo big!!
Lily had her 4-month visit at the pediatrician yesterday, and she weighed 18 pounds 1 ounce, almost double her birth weight! A very substantial little girl, although she has actually come down from 97th to 90th percentile since her 2-month checkup. The doctor said she is absolutely perfect, and Mommy and Daddy are getting strong arms and very sore backs. :)

The Michigan "Meatball"
We spent last weekend at our friends' cabin in the woods in Michigan, and we had fun lounging on their 'meatball,' a HUGE beanbag that can fit the whole family, as demonstrated below. What a great place for a photo shoot!
Our big girl looks tiny again when we put her in here!
But she got lonely, so Duke decided to join her.
At first she didn't quite know what to think about it,
But then she started having LOTS of fun.
Duke, however, was relieved when Lily got tired of being cute on the meatball so that he could have it all to himself...ahhh. Now THIS is what I call a dog bed, Mom and Dad.
Special visit
Lily's Auntie (or Tata, en français) Valentine came to visit us from Providence, RI (where she is getting her PhD at Brown), and we were reminded how much we miss not having her in Chicago! They had great bonding time...we got together with Auntie Julia, hung out at home, and Valentine learned exactly how well spit-up shows up on a black sweater. Tu nous manques déjà!!!!
